Chocolate Protein Fudge: A delicious post-workout snack!

I am honoured to be posting here on North Coast Naturals today. Since being introduced to these products, I have fallen in love and use them daily! Today I wanted to share a delicious recipe that I have been enjoying for breakfasts, snacks and dinners.

Since I have a Certified Nutritional Practitioner candidate, I am passionate about whole, healthy foods and making sure that each bite that goes into our bodies is healing, and health promoting. These bites are just that – loaded with wholesome ingredients, so these are treats you can feel good about eating!

Here are a few of the ingredients I used:

Hemp Seeds: these are an amazing source of nutrients, easily digestible protein and omega-3’s and help to alkalize your body. Their natural digestive enzymes remain intact allowing your body to use it with great efficiency, reducing stress on your body, maximizing the nutritional benefit

Coconut Oil: yes it is composed of mostly saturated fats BUT much of the fatty acids come from lauric acid, a medium chain fatty acid that is claimed to help combat both viruses and bacteria and prevent heart disease by promoting a health cholesterol balance and reducing injury to arteries! Coconut oil also promotes weight loss by increasing metabolism and supports our organs, such as the pancreas allowing us to burn more energy. It has also been said to improve digestions and helps with digestive related problems such as IBS. It also improves absorption of vitamins and minerals!

Cacao: this is a superfood packed full of antioxidants and minerals, which in addition to being wonderful for your health, the antioxidants are wonderful for recovery after a workout. It also contains compounds that increase serotonin in your brain, making you feel happier!

Almond Butter and Tahini: these nut and seed butters are a rich source of omega 6 oils and vitamins and minerals like calcium!

Fermented L-Glutamine (North Coast Naturals): This amino acid is the primary source of energy for your intestinal cells helping to heal digestive issues and promote good digestion. It is also wonderful for exercise recovery!

Raw Hemp Smoothie in Chocolate (North Coast Naturals): A blend of hemp protein, greens, fibre, probiotics and EFAs, this smoothie blend is really delicious, organic, GMO-free and provides complete protein. Super easy to throw into smoothies so you don’t have to mess around with a bunch of powders! It also tastes amazing, making it the perfect base for a chocolate dessert!

And in case this hasn’t got you significantly intrigued, I offer you this: These are melt in your mouth, chocolatey, gooey deliciousness, with just a little crunch from the walnuts. These remind me of traditional fudge, but are actually satisfying because of the quality protein and fats. One piece is all you need. Although if you ate more than that, I wouldn’t blame you. 😉

Chocolate Protein Fudge: A delicious post-workout snack! (Vegan & Gluten-Free)

Ingredients
  • 1 cup hemp seeds
  • ½ cup Raw Hemp Smoothie Chocolate
  • 4 tsp Fermented L-Glutamine (optional)
  • ¼ cup almond butter
  • ¼ cup tahini
  • ¼ cup coconut oil
  • 2 tbsp cacao powder
  • 2 tbsp chopped walnuts or any other nut your prefer (optional)
Instructions
  1. Combine hemp seeds and Raw Hemp Smoothie in a food processor until finely ground.
  2. Add in the almond butter, tahini, coconut oil, glutamine and cacao powder.
  3. Process until smooth.
  4. Add the chopped walnuts and pulse a few times to incorporate.
  5. Press into a loaf pan that has been lined with plastic wrap and place in the freezer for 20 minutes to harden.
  6. Remove from the pan by lifting the plastic wrap out. Cut into squares.
  7. Store in the freezer until ready to serve.
